- To ensure structural safety and extend lifetime of structures
- To minimize losses of structures having ECONOMICAL VALUE and/or HUMAN LIFE importance by determining deteriorations before fracture
- To improve knowledge of the current state and structural parameters of the structure
- To monitor the response of the structure under extreme loading cases that may not be taken into consideration during design procedure (i.e., dynamic loading)
